New York City moving logistics are among the most demanding in the country, and most of the difficulty is bureaucratic rather than physical. Co-op buildings in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens routinely require a certificate of insurance from the moving company naming the building's managing agent as an additional insured — and they specify minimum coverage limits that many smaller carriers cannot meet. Walk-up buildings in the West Village, Astoria, and Park Slope add physical complexity: no freight elevator, narrow stairwells, and furniture that must sometimes be taken apart to navigate a third-floor landing. Street parking rules vary by borough, block, and time of day, and an unpermitted truck stopped in a bus lane draws a ticket before the first box is off. Bundle Moving manages all of this before your carrier leaves the origin.

Beyond New York City, the state stretches 300 miles north to the Canadian border and covers markets as different as Albany's government-heavy relocation calendar, Buffalo's rust-belt revival neighborhoods, and the high-demand second-home corridor of the Hudson Valley. Fort Drum near Watertown is one of the Army's largest bases and generates substantial PCS volume toward the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. West Point at the southern end of the Hudson Valley adds officer relocation traffic that follows a rigid PCS calendar. Upstate New York winters are serious — lake-effect snow from Lake Ontario and Lake Erie can strand a carrier for days — and moves to remote Adirondack or Catskill addresses sometimes require shuttle vehicles. New York is not a single moving market, and we treat it that way.

NYC co-op and condo move-in requirements

Co-op and condo buildings throughout New York City require certificates of insurance with building-specific coverage minimums, advance elevator reservations, and signed move-in forms before a carrier is permitted to enter. We collect every requirement at booking and confirm compliance before your move date.

Borough parking and street-access permits

Moving-truck parking in New York City requires permits in most residential neighborhoods. We handle the New York City Department of Transportation permit process and coordinate with building managers to secure loading access — your carrier arrives with paperwork already cleared.

Fort Drum and West Point PCS coordination

Fort Drum near Watertown and West Point in the Hudson Valley are both major Army PCS relocation origins. Our carrier partners are experienced with Army documentation, government billing, and the specific move-calendar requirements of both installations.

New York Moving Questions

What does my NYC building's COI requirement mean and how do you handle it?+

A certificate of insurance (COI) is a document from your moving company's insurer certifying coverage limits and naming your building's managing agent as an additional insured. Many NYC buildings require this before granting elevator or loading dock access. Bundle Moving obtains and delivers the COI directly to your building as part of our standard move coordination — you don't have to chase it yourself.

How far in advance do I need to book a New York City move?+

Six to eight weeks is the recommendation for most NYC moves, and more for month-end dates in summer (especially September 1st, when enormous numbers of leases turn simultaneously). Building elevator reservations fill quickly, and carrier availability in the city compresses fast as the season peaks. We can sometimes accommodate shorter timelines in slower months, but New York rewards advance planning.

Do you coordinate military moves from Fort Drum or West Point?+

Yes. Fort Drum near Watertown and West Point in the Hudson Valley are both regular PCS origins in our carrier network. Our partners handle Army documentation, government billing, weight tickets, and the strict PCS timelines both installations enforce.
